Earth Quest Ginny Brinkley Kathleen Perry 9781934666791 Books Reviews
I found the title quite appropriate. Overall, the book kept me quite captivated; the characters were interesting as were some of their situations! I enjoyed the prologue which provided a great background/lead-in to the main story. I also liked, how at the beginning of each chapter, the authors included a quote that provided a hint to the reader where he/she would be taken! I enjoyed the ending where life did continue and there was one alien, half human and half alien, Enlillian (Lance), the child of Bill and Evek, who returned to earth, to see his father and continue his life on earth.
I found that Dr. Bill Lance (in the book) could have been in reality, Dr. Frederick White, Jr...it is unfortunate he was not alive to see his story published... I know he would have been proud of what the authors accomplished! Well done!
I've known Ginny Brinkley for decades. She has a history of scientific writing but for expectant mothers not space travelers. Ginny related the story about finding this manuscript at her deceased uncle's home. Only a portion of the story was found printed. With a little more searching Ginny's husband found the CD copy. It was rough but with Ginny's writing skills she made it a very nice alien/space traveler novel. This is a story that you will find yourself thinking about long after the book is on the shelf. It's ET grown up. We need the movie.
I too am not normally a big sci-fi reader, but I really enjoyed Earthquest. Makes you wonder if humans are really so programmed to so strongly crave red meat. There's a good combination of drama, romance, and humor--it makes a wonderful love story. I bought a copy for myself and will now buy one for my 11-year-old grandson as I think he's old enough to appreciate it also.
Both my husband and I read the book and found it truly enjoyable. It was so good I have recommended and passed it on to a friend of mine and her book club. They comprise of educators and nursing professionals as well as a couple of librarians. They have included the book (Earth Quest) on their future reads. Would love to see more by the authors and look for to reading more. Good luck to the authors in the future. Take a chance and give it a try! Tom and Arden Tomczak, Jacksonville, FL and long time readers.
This story has an interesting premise- a book written by 2 fledgling authors using a scientist's posthumous writings about a futuristic society.
Somehow the authors make the characters pop off the page, and inject a little "painless science" into the book.
The plot was stimulating enough to keep me interested thru all 209 pages, and is different somehow than other sci-fi books I've read.
A quick and involving read, would highly recommend this book!
I haven't read much science fiction lately, but when I learned that the central character lived and worked in the small town of Frostburg, Maryland (the home of a friend of mine), I was intrigued. I also happen to know one of the authors, Kathleen Perry, so I decided to give the book a chance. I am so glad I did. The authors do a marvelous job of bringing the characters in the book alive. The story line is well thought out and developed in a way that draws in the reader. The dialogue among characters is believable and you begin to think of them as real people. I think you're really going to enjoy this book.
I don't usually read sci-fi but I have to admit this little tome caught my eye! It opens up like a good bottle of wine-you're a little unsure and it takes a while to sort things out. Will it be a memory maker or just another "table wine"? Once you're into Earth Quest, things start to come alive. You want to see what happens, enjoy the surprises and come away with some good memories to savor. Nothing like a fresh look at the world around you to chew on. Refreshing enough to share with the kids. So go ahead and enjoy it!
