Act of Treason A Mitch Rapp Novel Vince Flynn 9780743270373 Books

I have enjoyed the other Mitch Rapp books and have found them entertaining, but Act of Treason is lacking in lots of areas.

Mitch Rapp is too full of himself in this book and it gets old after a while. It could have been toned down a bit and it would have made for a better story. The storyline is good and keeps moving along at a quick pace. It has some action and a little suspense but Act of Treason is not on the same lines as Mr. Flynn's other novels. It's still a fair read if you can get past the magnificent, marvelous, wonderful, great Mitch Rapp.

Act of Treason A Mitch Rapp Novel Vince Flynn 9780743270373 Books Reviews

It is such a shame that Flynn passed in 2013, he was one of the great espionage/thriller authors. Few books are worth reading more than once, his are. Mitch Rapp is relentless, as are the enemies of the U.S. His disdain for politicians and politics mirrors my own. They are a bunch of self-serving jack wagons who should mostly be thrown out of office, if not jailed for treason.
This is a story of political ambition beyond any boundary of civility.A presidential contest is at the center of the story. An unscrupulous political operative hatches a plan to help a ticket that is falling like a rock. There is an attack on the motorcade carrying the presidential and vice presidential nominees. The consequences affect the election. the intrigue is spell binding. Mitch Rapp is of course at the center of the investigation and there are plenty of twists and turns in the plot. This is a great read and it moves very quickly. Strongly recommend.
Number 9 out of 13 total in the Mitch Rapp series. Rapp is a no BS top operative of the CIA's Clandestine Services waging a war on terrorists and enemies of the United States. He answers only to the President of the United States and the Director of the CIA. The Mitch Rapp books are exciting and are tough to put down. Once you get hooked you'll want to read all of them. I suggest starting with number 1 and progressing to number 13 in order.

I read number 13 first and then discovered there were 12 more; so I bought them all and started the progression. has a list of Mitch Rapp books in chronological order that you can print out and check off as you read them. Have fun!
I went to to see what all the hoopla was about Vince Flynn's latest book, "Kill Shot". I had seen it on the Best Seller list and was curious. After reading all the reviews for Flynn's books on , I ordered "Term Limits" and "American Assassin" just to see if I'd like them. I am a senior citizen, a grandmother, and I've been reading contemporary romance, regency romance, and black ops/Navy Seals type books for years but was intrigued by the premises of Flynn's stories. I devoured those first two like a chocolate pie and before I had even finished "American Assassin", I bought all the rest except "Kill Shot" (waiting for the price to go down). As of today, two and a half months later, I've read all thirteen and must wait impatiently for his next book. I rate each of them with five stars. "Term Limits" sort of sets the stage for all the rest even though the Mitch Rapp character doesn't show up in that first book. You can read the synopsis for each of the books so I won't go into them here except to warn you are drawn in with the first few lines.

My only caveat is that you shouldn't even open one of these books unless you don't have to get up early the next morning. It's true, they are almost impossible to put down once you begin.

As a college professor at home for the summer, I'm now starting on my TBR stack that has been waiting for me to finish "Kill Shot". It includes Brad Taylor, Marc Cameron, Jack Coughlin, John Sandford, Ben Coes, David Baldacci, and Brad Thor. All are from recommendations on . OK, fellows, let the games begin and the good times roll.
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode on the Mitch Rapp series. I’ll leave it to someone else to decide if this one is better or worse than any other episodes. As for me, I’d say this one is one of the better ones.

I’ve read thirteen episodes in the series and all the characters are steadfast, especially Mitch Rapp and Irene Kennedy. When having so many steadfast characters, it’s rather difficult to create truly ‘new’ twists and turns. A duplicitous character like Stu Garret is going to be a duplicitous character every time he shows up. If it was the Rocky Horror Picture Show, the audience would boo loudly every time Stu Garret appeared on screen, and then they’d cheer with adoring love every time Mitch, or Irene, or Scott Coleman appeared. But a big part of the enjoyment of a series is that you get to know the characters. You know when to cheer and when to boo and hiss. That’s some of the fun.

On the less than positive side, I thought it took a long time (8% into the novel, 31 pages) to get to the motorcade blast. It read like artificial suspense. The reader knew what was going to happen, but the writer kept delaying the obvious and inevitable. Flynn’s editors must have been prodding him, “Draw out the suspense, more, more, more, longer, longer, longer. Who cares if the reader is getting impatient.” My response yawn. I was relieved when the bomb finally went off and the story could get moving.

But other than a very slow opening, I thought the pace of the story was fine and the various twists and turns enjoyable to follow. Vince Flynn is a hawk, and his stories reflect his hawkishness. I’m not as hawkish as he is, but I find it interesting to see inside a hawk’s thoughts, which I believe are revealed in the Mitch Rapp narratives.
